SAP Functional
There are two types of SAP Consultants, Functional and Technical. A Functional Consultant will look at the overall business process and speak with end users to identify the business requirements of each group and then integrate them based on the companies’ goals as a whole. They are a little different than a Business Analyst, because they are very familiar with the SAP Modules and how they work in a business environment as well as how to integrate them so they all work together.
There are several SAP Modules and Functions. The Modules being FI, Financial and Accounting, CO, Internal Cost Management and Accounting, AM, Asset Management, PS, for Managing Projects, HR, Human Resources, PM, Plant Maintenance, MM, Materials Management, QM, Quality Management, PP, Production Planning, SD, Sales and Distribution, BW, Business Warehousing. There are also Cross Applications that are one step above the modules and are used for organizing workflow, business information and office related activities.
Granted one person cannot be skilled in all of these applications and so Functional SAP Consultants specialize in a specific area of expertise, such as Financials, Human Resources, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Product Lifecycle Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Intelligence.
A Functional SAP Consultant will work very closely with a Technical SAP Consultant and also with all of the other members of an organization from Sr. Level Management to End Users of the product in order to identify the best overall solutions for the company. Functional SAP Consultants are sometimes 100% Functional only, but usually they are a mix of Functional and Technical with Functional being their strongest area of expertise. |
