OBJECTIVE
I own and operate an electronics consulting company which specializes in the design and development of RF communications systems and components. I have been performing design and development services as an independent consultant for the past 10 years. I have 27+ years experience in the design and development of communications systems and components. In most of that time I have been the project leader, and performing detailed system and component level modeling, simulation, design, and analysis. I have been involved from the proposal phase and architectural design, to detailed PCB level, and RFIC design (SiRF GRF1 RFIC). The company has a complete, modern ~ 800sq/ft laboratory, with the latest RF equipment and design & development SW.

80 Channel SCPC FM telemetry design – Provide overall system architecture, simulate system, produce specification, designed and developed receiver base-station cards to go into PC.
MSK Transceiver – Performed system architecture for RFIC.
4 Watt UHF PA – Design and develop small (~1” square) PA operating off 6V.
Design 5.8, 10, 20 GHz microstrip-on-silicon power splitters and couplers.
Design UHF mobile transceiver and basestation – System architecture design and analysis, detailed design and development of credit card size RF PCB for mobile units.
High anti-jam WAAS GPS Receiver – RF architecture design and system analyses, detailed design of micro-miniature (~1” x 1 1/4") discrete component RF section.
Dual channel L1/L2 GPS engine – detailed design and development of RF PCB.
GPS/Immarsat receiver – Provide guidance to junior engineers on design and development of receiver, perform system analyses, some detailed design PLL/VCOs, antenna hybrid, and Ultra-low noise L-Band LNA.
3/96 to 4/98: Company B
Senior RF System Engineer Responsible for all RF component development. Performed all RF system architectural design, analysis, and simulation. Designed and developed first OEM GPS reference design. Performed all system architecture, analyses, and simulations on GPS RFICs. Designed 50% of SiRF’s first internally designed GPS RFIC (GRF1). Developed RFIC test modules and test algorithms for hi-volume production.
9/84 to 3/96: Company C
94 to 96: Level 2 Tech Staff Electronics Research Laboratories, Communications Sciences Dept.
First engineer to move from level 1 to level 2 technical staff without going through a management position.
Design & development of 7 man-pack communications systems for Special Forces.
86 to 94: Company D
Level 1
First engineer at time to ever move from engineering sector to research laboratories (next one approximately 4 years later). Technical Direction for the Signals Research Laboratories (a quick reaction “Skunk Works” hardware development laboratory for Black projects which specialized in vulnerability analyses, electronic implantation, electronic finger printing, and modification of commercial equipment for military use). Led all teams (typically 3 engineers, and 3 techs), providing system engineering and detailed RF design for the projects. Performed system and component level design, simulation, and analyses in the RF communications areas on numerous classified projects. Also developed communications components and systems in-house. Major in-house hardware development projects included:
Design, development & deployment – Generic DSSS communications ground transceiver .
Design & development - 1GHz DSSS/FHSS arbitrary waveform generator.
System Architecture - Mobile collection vehicle (small semi-truck).
Design & Development, ground SAT test - 8-PSK trellis coded modulation modem.
Design & Development - Dual channel software configurable TDM/TDMA QPSK receiver.
Design, development, and deployment - AM/FM Transceiver for weather balloon.
9/84 to 86: Level 1 Company E.
Performed RF system level and component level simulation and analyses for communications satellites and ground stations for unclassified and classified projects.
3/80 to 9/84: Company F
Sr. Engineer – Design and development on RF, analog, and digital components for space based systems. Several RF components including a Ultra-low phase noise 100 MHz oscillator, and x7 S-band SRD multiplier are flying on satcoms. Left as one of youngest task leaders at Motorola responsible for direction of 6 engineers & techs.
